CBD Gummies vs CBD Oil

CBD Gummies vs. CBD Oil

CBD Gummies vs. CBD Oil

Before diving into the differences between CBD gummies vs CBD oil, it may be helpful to know more about CBD itself. Cannabidiol (CBD) is extracted from the hemp plant, which, unlike cannabis, contains only trace amounts of the psychoactive cannabinoid tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). There are many products on the market that are infused with CBD from vapes, lotions, and oils to chocolate, tarts, and gummies, that have been crafted to provide consumers with the associated benefits of CBD.

Out of all the CBD products available, the two most popular products are CBD oils and CBD gummies –probably because both are discrete. Oil is simple to take while you’re on a quick break, and gummies are easy to stash away in your purse, backpack, or briefcase. We’ll look at the additional benefits and differences of these two products so you can determine which is best for you.

CBD Oil

Sometimes referred to as a CBD tincture, CBD oil is an oil that contains a cannabidiol (CBD) extract. The most effective way to take CBD oils is by placing drops of the oil underneath your tongue and letting it absorb into your bloodstream. This method is called the sublingual method, and it enables the CBD to get to work very quickly because it doesn’t need to travel through your digestive system first, and effects can be felt in as little as 15 minutes.

CBD oil tends to have a distinct hemp flavor that some describe as bitter. If you would prefer to mask the flavor, CBD oils can easily be mixed into a variety of drinks and foods such as coffee, tea, smoothies, and soups. Ingesting CBD oil instead of placing it under the tongue may delay its absorption into your bloodstream. Whether you choose to take your CBD oil sublingually or orally, it’s important to remember that as it is a natural product, it is important to store your CBD oil properly to prolong the life.

CBD Gummies

CBD gummies have become increasingly popular with consumers who are looking for a fun and tasty way to take a controlled dose of CBD. Gummies are usually infused with a CBD isolate which is pure CBD without any of the other naturally occurring hemp elements, making it perfect for those who want to avoid THC in its entirety. As expected, CBD gummies are enjoyed orally and therefore provide a delayed release into your bloodstream. Although CBD gummies don’t provide a quick response, they do last a bit longer as they are metabolized slower than an oil taken sublingually. Anyone with a sweet tooth will be reaching for CBD gummies over CBD oil, and with a range of fruity and tart flavors, they are a fan favorite.

CBD Strength and Dosing

Regardless of which product strikes your fancy, you should be aware of the strength of the product and the appropriate dosage. Droppers of oil can allow you to have more control over your dosage while gummies can provide you with more control over CBD levels. Either way, allow time for your body to digest and adjust before taking more CBD.

Choose What Works for You

Even with their differences, oils and gummies are both great products that allow consumers to enjoy the benefits of CBD. In the end, it is up to you to determine which product best suits you and your needs. If you need help choosing the right product, Myriam’s Hemp is here to help you explore your options for better relief. Myriam’s Hemp CBD Gummies are coming soon!

Study Reports Preliminary Results of CBD Liver Safety

Results of CBD Liver Safety Study

Study Reports Preliminary Results of CBD Liver Safety

A patient-centered clinical trials company called ValidCare has recently concluded a 7-month study of the effects of CBD use on the liver. Overall, their findings have been advantageous to the consumer as their “investigators report to FDA no evidence of liver toxicity in the 839 adults consuming oral CBD”. This study was in response to the FDA’s request for science-based data to help determine the appropriate regulations for hemp derived CBD products.

The 7 Month Testing Process

With the help of twelve CBD product companies and 839 participants, ValidCare carried out a 7-month study of the effects of CBD on the liver. The study began in August 2020 and came to a close in February 2021. It may seem like conducting a study during the pandemic would prove to be problematic, but the “use of ValidCare’s decentralized clinical research platform and partnership with national laboratories enabled participants and principal investigators to successfully complete this first cohort” and the FDA and brands involved were delivered results within six weeks.

The main purpose of this 7-month study was to “observe any potential liver effects in adults ingesting oral forms of hemp derived CBD for a minimum of 60 days”. To successfully complete this study, ValidCare needed a minimum of 681 participants, and with the help of the participating product companies, they were able to have over 830 participants complete the study.

ValidCare’s Findings

Over the course of the 7-months ValidCare has found “no evidence of liver disease in the 839 participants and no increase in the prevalence of elevated liver function tests when compared to a population with a similar incidence of medical conditions”. Three participants were reported to have three times the normal levels of the liver enzyme ALT, but they were all taking prescription medications that are known to elevate liver enzymes.

The results of the study have been encouraging as it provides sufficient science-based data to the FDA, for them to take action on safety regulations for CBD in the future. That being said, this 7-month study has only been the first cohort, and ValidCare will continue to analyze real-world data and perform a second cohort to add to the statistical certainty for liver safety. ValidCare is “excited for [their] principal investigators to continue, expand and report out on this foundational work in the next few months. Once completed, safety results of this study will be shared with participation brands and the FDA.”

CBD as Potential Treatment for COVID-19

CBD as Potential Treatment for COVID-19

CBD as Potential Treatment for COVID-19

Recently, a study was conducted by a team of researchers in Illinois at the Rosner Lab at the University of Chicago to analyze if cannabidiol could be a potential treatment for COVID-19. In March 2021 Rosner Lab released their latest findings with evidence demonstrating the inhibiting effect of CBD on the replication of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This study highlights CBD and its active metabolite as potential preventative agents and therapeutic treatments for SARS-CoV-2 in the early stages of infection.

Why Was This Study Conducted?

With a wide and rapid spread of SARS-CoV-2 across the globe, researchers began to look for alternative ways to reduce the spread and effects of COVID-19. Colleagues at Rosner Lab say that the fact that the virus is still spreading even with the rollout of vaccines highlights the need for alternative approaches. This is especially true for populations with limited access to vaccines.

What Did the Study Involve?

The SARS-CoV-2 virus enters host cells via the binding of a surface viral protein to the human host cell receptor ‘angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE-2). To test the effect of CBD on SARS-CoV-2 replication, researchers at Rosner Lab pretreated A549 human lung carcinoma cells expressing exogenous human ACE-2 receptors for 2 hours with CBD, before infecting them with SARS-CoV-2. Then after 48 hours had passed, they monitored and analyzed the cells to see if the replication of the SARS-CoV-2 had been inhibited.

The Findings

Overall, the researchers at Rosner Lab have concluded that they have evidence that CBD inhibits the replication of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In addition to that, they have also released some key findings broken down in simpler terms for the public to understand:

  • After viral entry, CBD acts to block virus replication.
  • CBD has the potential to not only act as an antiviral agent in the early stages of infection but also protect the host against an overactive immune system during the late stages.
  • CBD inhibiting replication of at least one other coronavirus raises the possibility that it may also inhibit other human coronaviruses that could arise in the future.
  • 7-OH-CBD (a metabolite of CBD) is an effective inhibitor of SARS-CoV-2.
  • Analysis of participants taking FDA-approved CBD showed up to ten times a decreased risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to a set of control participants.

Although these findings represent a significant process in the alternative treatment of COVID-19, there are still “several issues that require close examination before CBD can be considered or even explored as a therapeutic for COVID-19”. For example, it appears that the presence of THC may counteract the antiviral efficacy of CBD. And of course, other concerns would need to be addressed, such as the means of administration like smoking or vaping that could potentially cause lung damage. In short, further studies would be needed to determine optimal methods of delivery, and clinical trials should be performed to test the promise of CBD as a therapeutic for SARS-CoV-2.

Does CBD Oil Go Bad

Does CBD Oil Expire?

Does CBD Oil Expire?

CBD oil comes with a wide range of medicinal benefits that may help you to overcome various aches, pains, and other ailments. Given its known properties and the sophisticated way that it is extracted from the cannabis plant, finding, and purchasing CBD oil can be an investment in your health and wellbeing. As such, it’s likely that you’ll want to make sure that it lasts and remains effective for as long as possible so that you can access the benefits without the need to purchase more too frequently. So, the big question is, does CBD oil expire?

Does CBD Oil Go Bad

How Long Does CBD Oil Last?

In most cases, a bottle of CBD oil should last you anywhere from 14 – 24 months if it is stored correctly. As with many other perishable products, you’ll want to avoid keeping it in direct sunlight or anywhere where it will get too hot. If you’ve purchased high-quality full spectrum CBD oil it will last longer than some of the less expensive products simply due to the minimal processing that is required during manufacturing. The extraction method itself also plays a significant role, as it can be agreed that oil manufactured using a supercritical CO2 extraction method will last longer than products developed with butane extraction.

Does CBD Oil Go Bad?

High-quality CBD oil is unaltered and doesn’t have any preserving chemicals added to it. It’s just pure CBD. Over time, the potency of your CBD oil may start to deteriorate, especially if it hasn’t been stored properly. This means that potential benefits such as pain relief may no longer be achievable, and you’ll need to purchase a new bottle.

How to Know if Your CBD Is No Longer Effective

If your CBD oil has gone bad or isn’t as effective as it once was, don’t fret – it isn’t going to make you sick. In most cases, the decline in potency will be the worst of it. However, there are three major signs that you can look for to determine if it has gone bad:

  • Expiration Date. Your CBD oil has an expiration date just like anything else, and it is an easy way to tell if the oil has gone past its useful shelf life.
  • Texture & Color. Thick, foggy, or cloudy oil as well as any visible separation can indicate that the product has begun to break down and won’t be effective.
  • Smell & Taste. Bad CBD smells…bad. You’ll know if you ever smell it, and the taste will be different from what you’re used to.
Does CBD Oil Expire

The Best Way to Store CBD Oil

To avoid your CBD oil going bad before its expiration date, there are a few steps you can take:

  • Make sure that you tuck your bottle away somewhere that is dark and cool
  • Ensure that the cap is on tightly to prevent any unnecessary oxidization (this will cause faster break down of the oil)
  • Store your bottle upright so that no leakage can occur
  • Keep your bottle away from direct sunlight
  • Always keep your dropper clean and free from residue

Purchase High Quality CBD Oil at Myriam's Hemp

At Myriam’s Hemp, our goal is to share useful information that will help you make the most of your CBD experience. You can get a lot of benefits and use out of your bottle if you consume it regularly and keep it from going bad too quickly. To purchase CBD oil online, shop with us today.

Traveling with CBD Oil

Can You Travel with CBD Oil?

Can You Travel with CBD Oil?

With all of the new laws and subsequent restrictions surrounding CBD products, one big question comes up with immense frequency: can you travel with CBD oil or other CBD products? Certainly, with international travel, there are more stringent restrictions that should always be checked in terms of the airline and also the destination country. But what about domestic flights within the United States? Permission to fly with CBD oil isn’t something that should be assumed, and there are several points that you should be familiar with before you pack your bags and head out – which is why we’re here to help you get to the bottom of it.

Can You Travel with CBD Oil

TSA Restrictions

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) sets guidelines for travel and until recently, had prohibited flying with CBD products. This restriction has now been lifted and any products that are FDA approved or that contain hemp-derived CBD oil are permitted, but with a few restrictions in place.

CBD Oil

TSA states that air travel with CBD oil is permitted and would be viewed the same as someone traveling with regular, over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen. CBD oil is also permitted in both checked bags and carry-on luggage, as long as it meets the requirements for carrying liquids, gels, or oils in a carry-on bag.

THC Limits

According to the TSA’s website, you can travel with CBD oil provided that it contains less than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). It isn’t the priority of the TSA to search for THC or other drugs, but if you are found with THC products, TSA agents will hand you over to local law enforcement. We recommend going to directly to the TSA website for the most accurate and up-to-date information on what you can and cannot bring on your upcoming flight.

Electronic Cigarettes/Vape Pens

The TSA has further restrictions on how CBD can be used or consumed while traveling via air. Electronic cigarettes or vape pens are permitted in carry-on baggage, however, the use of these devices while in flight is prohibited across the country. This is due to the lithium batteries that many of these devices use.

Benefits of Traveling with CBD Oil

For many, the thought of flying can cause some situational anxiety for one reason or another. CBD boasts a wide array of health benefits and may help to reduce the stress associated with air travel, making it a top choice for many who desire a more relaxing experience. In theory, you could take CBD before your flight but not carry any with you during travel. This would eliminate any potential issues with bringing CBD oil on board, but you won’t have what you need once you land at your destination unless you find a new retailer who can help you.

Bringing your CBD oil on board with you during domestic travel enables you to purchase from your regular, quality store and continue using the products you are comfortable with.

Shop Online at Myriam's Hemp

At Myriam’s Hemp, we have a wide array of CBD, CBG, CBN, CBDA products that contain less than 0.3% THC making them the perfect option to travel with domestically. This way you may be able to reduce the stress that comes with flying and enjoy your flight experience. We’re always looking for ways to help you manage your pain, stress, and other ailments, and we invite you to shop online with us to purchase CBD oil for your next flight today.

How to Get the Most Out of Your CBD

How to Get the Most out of Your CBD

How to Get the Most out of Your CBD

It isn’t uncommon for many who use CBD to become frustrated or fall out of sync with it. CBD can be highly beneficial for many people, but continued use is paramount due to the way that it interacts with our bodies. Falling out of your CBD routine could occur because you aren’t feeling the positive effects of it, or it could just be that you aren’t sure how to fully maximize its potential in your day-to-day life. CBD acts differently for different people and finding your rhythm can be a daunting process – but the end result is a life that is more balanced, more fulfilling, and less painful. If you have a bottle of CBD that you bought to try out, received as a Christmas gift, or simply feel stuck in a bit of a rut with your dosage lately, focusing on new ways to get the most out of your CBD can help. One or more of these solutions could help you reach the place where it all clicks, and you can begin to enjoy the benefits of CBD in your everyday life.

Make Sure Your Dropper Is Always Clean

This may sound trivial, but if your dropper isn’t clean it can degrade your CBD with impurities. Without cleaning, your dropper can develop mold and ruin the precious bottle altogether. If you’ve had your bottle of CBD oil for a while, a good first step is to clean the dropper. You can use mildly soapy water to clean the dropper thoroughly and ensure that any impurities are washed away. This will provide you with a properly clean vehicle to deliver CBD into your system.

If You Don’t Enjoy the Taste, Mask It with Food!

Everyone has different tastes. If you aren’t enjoying the taste of your CBD oil, try mixing it into food so that the flavor can be disguised. By consuming CBD you’ll still be able to enjoy the benefits of it, but there may be some break down before it enters your bloodstream. Make sure that you’re taking the correct dose that will allow you to consume it directly without taking away from the natural benefits that it provides. If you’re stumped for ideas, try adding it to salad dressing, mixing it into your baking (be sure to get the amounts right!), or spreading it on toast along with butter or avocado. Read our ultimate guide to cooking with CBD oil for even more ideas! For those who don’t like the natural flavor of CBD, Myriam’s Hemp also offers Vanilla flavored CBD oil!

Adding CBD to Food

Add CBD to Your Drinks to Get Your Daily Dose

Drinking your CBD oil could be the easiest solution and get you back on track with taking it daily. You can take it with a glass of water at a set time each day or try a variety of other drinks to help mask the flavor and give yourself a reason to continue with it. Add a few drops of CBD oil into your morning coffee, afternoon lemonade, or evening iced tea, and enjoy the experience.

CBD Dosing and the Bell Curve Effect

CBD Dosing and the Bell Curve Effect

CBD Dosing and the Bell Curve Effect

Many customers often wonder about CBD dosing and what amount of CBD they should be taking in an effort to alleviate an assortment of common ailments. As each person is different, it can be confusing to find the right information that will provide you with the most effective benefits. It’s common for many to start off with a small amount of CBD to be safe and get a feel for it, and then increase their CBD dosage in small increments until they reach their desired outcome. But it’s important to understand that CBD isn’t like other substances such as alcohol where the more you consume, the more prevalent the effects will be. In fact, too much CBD won’t do much of anything at all, and that’s why it’s important to reference the Bell Curve Effect for best results.

CBD Dosing and the Bell Curve Effect

What is the Bell Curve Effect?

The Bell Curve Effect indicates the optimal CBD dosage and illustrates a fairly simple formula: a low dose of CBD will provide a low benefit and a high dose will…also provide a low benefit. Cannabinoids don’t provide the standard dose-to-effect result that alcohol or other substances do, but instead are non-linear. This means that if the goal of your CBD intake is to provide the maximum effect (which it most likely is), too much or too little won’t help you succeed.

Your body utilizes CBD differently depending on dosage, and there are various interactions that can take place as a result of the amount that you take. CBD interacts with multiple receptors in your brain as opposed to one singular receptor where a simple dose-to-effect would be more likely, so there’s no use in cautiously underdosing. In order to achieve the maximum benefit indicated by the Bell Curve Effect, your CBD dosage needs to be just right.

How to Determine the Right Amount for You

This all leads back to the original question, “how much CBD should I take?” and the answer is not as simple as guessing based on your ability to handle other substances. Depending on your level of pain and discomfort or your particular lifestyle, your CBD dosage requirements will vary compared to that of others. Starting with either a high or low dose isn’t necessarily going to help you, and can easily lead some people to the early (and false) conclusion that CBD isn’t going to work for them.

Instead, research the CBD dosage amount that others are taking who share the same ailments as you and start from there. With a tasteless, isolated CBD oil you can easily alter your dose up or down until you find the right fit that works for you. If you’re experiencing a high level of pain, a higher dose of full-spectrum extract may be the best option as it contains multiple cannabinoids that can interact with your brain to produce the desired effects.

What is CBN

What is CBN?

What is CBN and What are the Benefits?

Cannabinol, or CBN, is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in cannabis plants that results from the oxidation process of THC. At one point in time, it was suspected that CBN was the active ingredient in marijuana that produced the high, but we now know THC to be responsible for that. So, what’s the deal with CBN? CBN is what is produced when the THC in cannabis oxidizes or is left out to dry in the heat for an extended period of time. As oxidation occurs, the levels of THC in the flower decrease and CBN is created in its place. CBN won’t give you a high like THC will, though it does bind itself to the same receptors in your brain. Strength-wise, it measures around a quarter of the potency that you can expect with THC but instead CBN boasts a number of other benefits that can make it an attractive option for many people.

What is CBN

Benefits of CBN

There isn’t a lot of detailed research surrounding CBN, however more studies are beginning to pop up as many strive to learn more about the properties and potential benefits of cannabis. CBN and CBN oil have been the subject of studies that, while not published by peer-reviewed journals, produced a few noteworthy benefits, including:

Improved sleep. CBN has the potential to aid with sleep disorders and issues that prevent healthy sleep patterns. If you have access to poorly stored marijuana, there’s a chance that it could give you what you need for a few solid hours of shut-eye.

Decreased inflammation. CBN has been used to promote a normal inflammatory response in studies, meaning that it has potential for use as an anti-inflammation aid.

Appetite stimulant. THC is known to be an appetite stimulant, but studies show that CBN may be able to offer the same benefit without the need for the user to feel the intoxicating effects that they would with THC.

How to Use CBN

CBN is commonly manufactured into CBN oil, which can be consumed as a tincture in liquid form. CBN tinctures are increasing in popularity as more information is uncovered about the potential benefits, and there are numerous available flavors to make the use of CBN tincture an attractive option for those seeking therapeutic effects. Our own CBN tincture products available at Myriam’s Hemp are made using premium hemp extracts that contain a wide array of phytocannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids, and are administered under the tongue using a standard dropper syringe.

Where Can CBN Be Purchased?

CBN is legal at the federal level as per the 2018 Farm Bill and isn’t considered an official drug, though some states have banned the sale of products such as CBN tincture while others have regulation on how it can be sold by public retail outlets. CBN tinctures are available for purchase from Myriam’s Hemp, and we have it available in 150mg and 300mg options.

Our CBN oil and CBN tincture use full spectrum hemp extract and are manufactured and tested here in the United States. We exclusively use 100% natural ingredients to make our CBN tincture products, all of which are formulated for maximum absorption and efficiency. On top of that, they are free from sugar and wheat, vegan friendly, and contain less than 0.3% THC. Our goal is to bring you the highest quality in natural cannabis products, and we ship to all 50 states to help you easily discover and access the right products for you. Which Cannabinoid is Right for You?

Which Cannabinoid is Right for You?

Which Cannabinoid is Right for You?

Cannabinoids are the naturally occurring chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant, many of which are separated to create various products that offer different intended effects. Regardless of what the desired end product is, manufacturers will extract these cannabinoids carefully to preserve their natural benefits so that their full potential can be realized. While there are many different cannabinoids that we know of, some are more well-known than others, such as THC and CBD. Each offers different characteristics and potency levels, and they react with the brain in different ways to achieve specific outcomes.

Which Cannabinoid is Right for You?

What are Differences in Cannabinoids?

While most cannabinoids have demonstrated benefits such as pain relief, they react differently to receptors in the brain. Let’s dive into some of the most common cannabinoids, their effects, and their potential benefits.

THC – Tetrahydrocannabinol. One of the only cannabinoids that will produce a high, THC is also the cannabinoid that is most abundant in marijuana and it has been found to be effective in relieving or reducing pain in some cases, as well as promoting a healthy appetite.

CBD – Cannabidiol. CBD is frequently used for medicinal purposes because it does not produce the same high as THC. However, it can be combined with THC to amplify the effects. Continued use of CBD has demonstrated the potential to improve numerous negative health conditions, such as reduced feelings of stress and better sleep.

CBDA – Cannabidolic Acid. CBDA is the raw acidic form which converts into CBD when it is dried and heated. In its raw acidic form, there have been reports of it potentially being more potent than CBD in smaller doses for anti-inflammatory purposes. This may be useful when used as a remedy for muscle pain or inflammation after an injury or infection.

CBG – Cannabigerol. CBG is becoming more popular among researchers and medical professionals. It has become a choice for alternative cancer fighting strategies as it may decrease the number of bacteria that can grow. If effective, this could stunt tumor and cancer cells.

CBN – Cannabinol. CBN occurs when THC oxidizes and loses its intoxicating effects. This cannabinoid may be able to help with concerns surrounding pain, inflammation, sleep disorders, and appetite stimulation.

Choosing the Right Cannabinoid

Determining the right cannabinoid depends on the ailment that you’re trying to get a handle on. Most cannabinoids have been found to deal with pain symptoms, though CBD has proven to be a popular choice for most people looking to manage regular pain or inflammatory problems such as arthritis. CBD is also readily available in numerous forms and offers a good starting point to begin your healing journey. At Myriam’s Hemp, we carry various options for CBD, CBDA, CBG, and CBN. If you have questions, we’ll happily take the time to help you determine which cannabinoid will offer the right solutions for your individual needs.
