Fearless and Free: How CBD Erases the Lingering Impact of Predator Stress!

Reading Time 11.5 Minutes

People take CBD for lots of different reasons, but one of the most popular is for anxiety or stress relief. According to results from Forbes health survey research, at least 50% of CBD users across all age categories use CBD to relieve stress.

Stress is a very interesting medical phenomenon. We all experience it, and it has significant impacts on all of us. Stress is something that many of us see as just part of everyday life… but stress can have some major medical effects, including heart issues, mental health issues, and immune system problems. Stress impacts every aspect of your health– even your fertility and ability to have kids

Finding a way to deal with stress is important, so let’s talk more about stress, why it impacts us, and how CBD research shows a way to deal with stress. Please note that these statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. The products discussed here are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Why Does Stress Affect Us So Strongly?

There is a close relationship between stress and health. Stress affects our health strongly due to its impact on various physiological systems in the body. When we experience stress, our body undergoes a series of reactions as part of the “fight or flight” response, which is the body’s way of preparing to deal with perceived threats or challenges. While this response is crucial for survival in the short-term, chronic stress can lead to significant health problems.

Stress triggers the release of hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. While these hormones are helpful in short bursts, prolonged release due to chronic stress can disrupt the body’s hormonal balance, leading to issues like weight gain, high blood pressure, and compromised immune function. If you experience chronic stress, you may develop a weakened immune system, making the body more susceptible to infections and illnesses. This occurs because stress hormones suppress the effectiveness of the immune system, reducing the body’s ability to fight off pathogens.

Stress also contributes to chronic inflammation in the body, which is linked to numerous health problems including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and autoimmune disorders. Prolonged stress can lead to a persistent state of inflammation, increasing the risk of developing these conditions. Stress can raise blood pressure and heart rate, increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke over time. Chronic stress contributes to the buildup of plaque in arteries, leading to atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular problems.

Stress can also affect the digestive system, leading to issues like irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion, and acid reflux. Chronic stress can disrupt the balance of gut bacteria and reduce blood flow to the digestive organs, making these problems worse.

Finally, chronic stress is closely linked to mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression. The constant activation of the stress response can affect neurotransmitter levels in the brain, leading to mood disturbances and cognitive issues. Stress can also interfere with sleep patterns, leading to insomnia or poor-quality sleep. Lack of adequate sleep further exacerbates stress and can contribute to a range of health problems, including impaired cognitive function and increased risk of chronic diseases.

How Do We Study Stress?

It can be challenging to study stress because when we talk about stress in people, there are often a lot of contributing factors. An easy way for researchers to look at stress is by studying a phenomenon called predator stress

Predator stress, also known as predatory stress, is a type of psychological stress induced by the presence or threat of a predator. It is a well-established model used in laboratory research to study the physiological and behavioral responses to acute stress in animals. Predator stress is one of the ways that researchers are able to induce stress that can then be used as a proxy for stressful experiences in humans.

The goal of inducing predator stress in research is to understand how animals respond to acute stressors that mimic real-life threats in their natural environment. This stressor triggers a cascade of physiological and behavioral responses, including the release of stress hormones like cortisol or adrenaline, changes in neurotransmitter levels, alterations in brain activity, and changes in behavior such as freezing, fleeing, or defensive behaviors.

Studying predator stress in laboratory animals can provide valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying stress responses and how they impact various physiological systems in humans, including the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems. This research can have implications for understanding stress-related disorders in humans and developing potential interventions or treatments to mitigate the negative effects of stress on health and well-being.

How Does CBD Impact Predator Stress?

In a recent study, neuroscientists looked at the impact of CBD on predator stress in rats. Specifically, they wanted to understand the potential impacts of CBD for PTSD-related symptoms, which can be modeled with long-term predator exposure.

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a serious condition that can develop after a traumatic event. Exposure to predators can cause lasting anxiety in rodents, similar to symptoms seen in people with PTSD. Cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis plants, is frequently used for stress relief, so the researchers wanted to understand how it might be able to help the rats. In this study, researchers gave male rats CBD after they were exposed to a cat– the predator in the predator stress question. Some rats received a single dose of CBD, while others received repeated doses. A week later, the rats were tested in a maze to measure their anxiety levels.

The researchers also looked at how CBD affects specific brain receptors called 5HT1A receptors, which are involved in anxiety. They found that repeated doses of CBD prevented the long-lasting anxiety caused by the predator exposure, implying that it might be feasible to use CBD for PTSD treatment, possibly by affecting these specific brain receptors.

Why Use Predator Stress?

Exposure to predators like cats can lead to immediate defensive behavior and long-lasting changes in behavior in rodents. These changes are more significant compared to models using other stressors like electric shocks. The exact brain mechanisms behind these lasting effects are still unknown, but they might involve changes in certain brain structures and neurotransmitter systems related to fear and memory.

What The Study Found

In the study, the researchers found that giving rats repeated doses of CBD after they were exposed to a predator helped prevent long-lasting anxiety caused by the traumatic event. However, after the predator exposure, the rats also showed reduced activity in certain parts of a maze, which could suggest a decrease in general activity rather than just anxiety. This reduction in activity is common in studies using anxiety-inducing drugs or procedures. The researchers believe it might be because these drugs or procedures make rats more alert to potential threats in the maze.

Previous studies have shown that CBD can reduce anxiety in rodents and humans. It’s thought to work by affecting brain activity related to emotions. Unlike previous studies where CBD was given shortly before testing, the researchers started giving CBD to the rats one hour after the predator exposure and ended it 24 hours before testing. This suggests that CBD might not only have immediate effects on anxiety but also affect long-term changes caused by stress.

Overall, the researchers’ study suggests that repeated doses of CBD can help prevent long-lasting anxiety caused by exposure to predators in rats. CBD might work by affecting serotonin receptors in the brain, but its exact mechanisms of action are still unclear. More research is needed to fully understand how people can use CBD for PTSD and other stress-related disorders.

CBD for Pets: Pain & Anxiety

Reading Time 5 Minutes

Nobody likes seeing their pets struggling. Pet owners do everything they can to keep their companion animals happy and healthy, and that means attending to both their physical and mental health. We take our pets to the vet to ensure that they aren’t injured or sick, but the field of animal mental health is much newer than general veterinary care. Today, the market is flooded with products for pet anxiety. This includes CBD products. But do these products actually work?

Until recently, there was little formal scientific research on the safety and efficacy of CBD’s use in companion animals. But like many other aspects of hemp-related research, this field of research is expanding.

CBD for Dogs’ Anxiety

Animals can suffer from anxiety, just like people. In fact, canine anxiety is on the rise as people who got pandemic pets return to the office. There are many products designed to help with your pets’ anxiety, including physical devices like the Thundershirt and anti-anxiety products like CBD for pets. But is CBD good for anxiety in dogs? Does it actually work? Findings in a literature review of the current state of pet CBD research suggest that it does!

One study found that a single dose of CBD was sufficient to reduce stress and anxiety in dogs during car travel and during separation from their people. Dogs were given either a placebo or CBD capsule and, two hours after administration, were taken for a car ride or separated from their humans. Researchers found that dogs treated with CBD had significantly lower stress hormone (cortisol) levels, whined less, and were calmer than the dogs that received a placebo.

Another study that looks at aggression in shelter dogs, who live in a high-stress environment and don’t have the same regular interaction with people that dogs in pet homes do, found that CBD use reduced aggressive behavior and kept the dogs calmer. Not only is this good for the dogs’ mental well-being, it may also help them find homes faster. It’s a win for everybody!

CBD for Dogs’ Pain

Arthritis is a very common problem for dogs as they age– just like it is with people. And just like how many people take CBD for their arthritis pain, pet owners are turning to CBD for their senior pets’ arthritis. One study that looked at pet supplements for arthritis pain found that CBD offered more high-quality results than many other types of supplements. Additionally, a case study from Cornell’s veterinary school found that a low dose– 2 mg of CBD per kilogram of pet bodyweight– helps increase comfort and activity in dogs with arthritis

CBD for Cats

While research shows that dogs can tolerate CBD doses safely, veterinary researchers still aren’t sure about cats. A study that looked at cats’ tolerance of CBD found that cats do appear to absorb CBD differently than dogs, showing lower serum concentrations and adverse effects of excessive licking and head-shaking during oral CBD oil administration. (However, any cat owner knows that this is fairly normal behavior for many cats when given medication.)

Another cat safety study found that adverse effects in cats given both CBD and a CBD/THC mixture were linked to the carrier oil, and that most of the adverse events were gastrointestinal in nature. There were no clinically significant changes in complete blood counts or clinical chemistry across treatment groups, indicating overall safety and tolerance. But cats dosed with THC in addition to CBD experienced more adverse events than the cats who were just given CBD– suggesting that CBD alone may be safer.

Cannabis Toxicity in Cats and Dogs

If you’ve done any research into cannabinoids for domestic pets, you may have come across reports of toxicity in these animals. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, this is most frequently the result of the animal eating an edible that contains THC and is often related to the non-THC ingredients, like chocolate, oils, and sugar substitutes. It may also be linked to the high, human-grade doses in these products.

There have been pet deaths related to cannabis toxicity, but these have typically come from accidental ingestion– not supervised care. If you want to administer CBD to your pet, make sure that you’re giving them an appropriate dose. The good news is that safety data shows that CBD is well-tolerated in dogs, although there is insufficient information on the safety profile of CBD in cats.

Exotic Pets and CBD

There are very limited formal studies supporting the use of CBD in animals. However, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t work– plenty of veterinarians have noted that CBD can have beneficial effects for dogs and cats. This is supported by the research that exists. But non-mammal pets do not metabolize cannabinoids the same way that mammals do. Birds in particular are extremely sensitive, so CBD is likely not a good choice for them. There is also very limited information on CBD and its effect on reptiles. There is one instance of CBD being used to successfully treat a fatty tumor in a snake, but there are no formal inquiries into the subject.

Dosing CBD for Cats and Dogs

In a 2020 study by the Waltham Petcare Science Institute, cannabinoid researchers worked to establish a healthy baseline dose of CBD for cats and dogs. They found that a dose of about 4mg of CBD per kilogram of the animal’s bodyweight was sufficient to see results without causing adverse effects.

If you want to try CBD for your beloved pet, our high-quality, full-spectrum Pet CBD Oil is a great choice. However, if your pet needs a higher dose (especially if they’re a larger dog), our human-grade tinctures like our CBG, CBDA, and higher potency CBDs (Daily 25, Daily 50) are perfectly safe for pets, too. However, if you want to use one of these tinctures, choose the vanilla carrier oil option. Animals are more sensitive to olive oil, and it can cause stomach upset and diarrhea.

But did you know that you can use CBD Oil for dogs just as you can for humans? Providing you follow a few simple rules, it’s both safe and effective to use CBD Oil for dogs.

CBD works by impacting the body’s endocannabinoid system, and since dogs have the same endocannabinoid system as humans, CBD Oil can work for them just as well as humans. The way you give CBD Oil to dogs is a little different and you’ll want to give them a lower dose of CBD. However, it’s easy for dogs to use and there are even CBD products designed for pets. Can You Use CBD Oil For Dogs?

CBD or cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive substance found in various strains of cannabis and regularly extracted from hemp for use in all kinds of products, with CBD Oil being the most popular. CBD Oil is popular for use as it lets you absorb cannabidiol quickly by administering it under your tongue.

When you ingest CBD Oil, cannabidiol interacts with cannabinoid receptors in your body and is said to provide various positive effects. More research on CBD is still needed and it’s important to note that it’s not a medical treatment and shouldn’t be used as such. But with that said, studies on CBD users show that many people still use it as a natural herbal supplement that they find useful for various.

So can you use CBD Oil for dogs? The answer is yes. All mammals have the same endocannabinoid system, which means that dogs can use CBD Oil just like humans can. Although the methods of administration and dosages will differ, you can give CBD Oil to dogs effectively and many users recommend it.

Studies On Using CBD For Dogs

Research on using CBD for dogs is very limited. Currently, there are only a few studies on how dogs react to CBD, although research on CBD for pets is set to grow. However, the current research out there shows some promising findings and shows that dogs can use CBD without any issues.

One of the most interesting studies tested the effects of CBD on osteoarthritic dogs. Dogs were given 2 mg of CBD per kg of body weight twice per day. Some of the dogs in the study showed decreased pain ratings and increased activity levels. They also exhibited no harmful side effects.

Another study focused on CBD for dogs with epilepsy. Preliminary findings suggested that dogs in the trial experienced a reduction in epileptic seizures. There were also no harmful side effects.

These studies don’t guarantee that CBD Oil can treat any medical conditions for dogs, but they do show some promise. Just like for humans, CBD Oil can act as a safe daily supplement for dogs.

Are There Side Effects of Using CBD Oil For Dogs?

Introducing any new substance to your pets should be done with caution. However, CBD is a very safe and risk-free supplement to use. Research on CBD regularly shows that using CBD has no serious side effects, no risk of addiction, and no risk of overdose, making it a very safe substance to use.

Some minor side effects are occasionally reported from using CBD. Some users experience fatigue, diarrhea, and changes in mood or appetite. You may notice your dogs become tired or thirsty when they use CBD. However, even in studies on dogs, side effects are very uncommon and in the worst-case scenario, only minor side effects are reported.

CBD for Dogs

How To Use CBD Oil For Dogs

Administering CBD Oil to dogs is different than using it yourself, especially as it can be tough to encourage dogs to hold drops of oil under their tongue for 2 minutes. However, there are a few effective ways to use CBD Oil for dogs.

One approach is to apply CBD Oil to their gums instead of under their tongue. Just lift their lip, apply some drops of CBD Oil, and it’ll be absorbed within minutes just like when it’s held under the tongue.

The most effective way to give CBD Oil to dogs is to add it to their food. That way, when they eat, they’ll also benefit from a good dose of cannabidiol. There’s no hassle with this method and your dogs will consume CBD without even realizing it.

Since dogs are much smaller than humans, they won’t need as much CBD Oil. While there’s no official recommended dose of CBD Oil for dogs, around 3-5mg of CBD per 10 lbs of body weight should work well. CBD is safe in all quantities and you can feel free to increase their dosage if you see fit.

Conclusion

CBD Oil has become a widely popular product for anyone looking for a safe and natural cannabinoid-infused supplement. It doesn’t cause any health risks and studies suggest it may even have benefits, although it’s not guaranteed to heal any symptoms. There’s a lot of interesting research out there on the effects of CBD. CBD works by interacting with endocannabinoid receptors in the body’s peripheral and central nervous systems. However, CBD can also work for animals.

All animals have the same endocannabinoid system. As such, CBD can work in pets such as dogs and cats just as it can for humans. Although the methods of administration and dosages are different, you can give CBD to your pets safely in multiple ways and there are even CBD products for pets.

Research on using CBD for pets is more limited than research on CBD for humans. However, there are still some interesting findings. While further research is still needed, studies show that animals can use CBD effectively.

Is CBD Safe For Your Pet?

It’s only natural for pet owners to worry about introducing new substances to their pets. Fortunately, CBD is very safe to use and shouldn’t cause your pets any problems whatsoever. Studies on the safety of CBD regularly show that CBD has no serious health risks and no risk of addiction or overdose.

CBD Oil for Cats: Will it Help Their Anxiety?

CBD Oil has seen a massive surge in popularity over the last few years. While it used to be seen as another cannabis-based product available in medical dispensaries, hemp-based CBD products are now widely available for everyone to use. Many people use these as a daily herbal supplement. But humans aren’t the only ones who can consume CBD successfully.

Research shows that many animals respond to CBD in the same way. That means that as well as being able to take CBD yourself, you can also give CBD Oil to cats and dogs. It’s often used for cats for many reasons, but will it help their anxiety? Here’s a guide on how CBD Oil works for your pets, how to use it, and how it can help.

How CBD Oil Works

CBD Oil is a natural product that’s usually extracted from hemp. CBD is short for cannabidiol, a safe and non-psychoactive substance found in these plants. You can now find CBD infused into all kinds of products such as Topicals and Edibles, but the most popular is CBD Oil.

When you consume CBD Oil, it works its way quickly into your system and binds to cannabinoid receptors in the body. It can cause various reactions by activating the endocannabinoid system, a biological system that has an impact on various biological functions.

CBD Oil is a very popular product due to the fact that it’s very convenient and easy to use. You take it sublingually and your body absorbs the cannabidiol fast. It’s also discreet and you can use it from anywhere. But while it’s become huge for humans, CBD Oil can also be used for your pet dogs and cats.

CBD Oil for Cats

Can You Use CBD Oil for Cats?

One of the most interesting things about CBD Oil is that it can benefit more than just humans. All mammals have the same endocannabinoid system. That means that your dogs and cats can consume CBD Oil and it’ll work the same way it does for humans.

There are many reasons you may want to give your cats CBD Oil. Although it’s not a medical treatment, many users report that it has naturally helpful effects. A recent survey of vets found that many said they have seen improvements from using CBD on dogs.

While there is not much research on using CBD Oil for cats, they react to CBD in the same way as other mammals. As such, many cat owners now give CBD Oil to their cats for a range of reasons.

CBD Oil for Cats: Will it Help Their Anxiety?

It’s important to note that CBD Oil is not classed as a medical product and there’s no guarantee that it can help with anxiety. However, with that said, many users report seeing improvements after taking the natural supplement.

Although there is no research on the effects of CBD on anxiety in cats, it appears to work the same way as it does for humans. Since CBD is very safe to consume for cats, it doesn’t hurt to give them a daily dose and it may even have a naturally beneficial effect on them.

Is CBD Oil Safe for Cats?

One of the things that’s clear about CBD Oil is that it’s extremely safe to use. There have been all kinds of studies on using CBD for both humans and animals, all of which show that it’s very well-tolerated by mammals. As such, you won’t have much to worry about when it comes to giving CBD Oil to your cats.

A research review on the safety and side effects of CBD notes that it’s very safe to consume. There are occasionally minor side effects recorded in humans- diarrhea, tiredness, and changes in mood or appetite being the most common. Even then, many people use it without any issues whatsoever.

It’s best to only give your cats a small dose of CBD oil each day. Since they’re much smaller than humans, they’ll need much less, and larger doses may cause diarrhea. However, you can give it to them without any risk of harm to their health. CBD is also non-addictive, non-psychoactive, and it’s impossible to overdose on CBD.

How To Use CBD Oil for Cats

While CBD Oil can be used safely for cats, administering it to them is a little different from using it yourself. Most people take CBD Oil by applying a few drops under the tongue and holding it there for 30-90 seconds for fast-absorption. Naturally, teaching your cats to hold the oil under their tongue or even swallow it will be trickier. However, there are ways around this.

The most common method of administering CBD Oil to pets is to infuse it into their food. Orally-consumed CBD Oil takes longer to absorb into the system as it must first be digested. However, it’s still a very effective method of consumption. Apply some drops to your cat’s food for the best effects.

While CBD oil can now be found in many stores, the best way to get it is to buy online. Myriam’s Hope Hemp provides high-quality CBD Oil which has been lab-tested to ensure its purity and safety. Pet CBD Oil is specially designed for use for animals, making it easy to control their dosage and give them a good daily dose of cannabidiol.

Conclusion

Using CBD Oil for cats is both safe and effective. Since CBD interacts with every mammal’s endocannabinoid system the same way, your cats can use it just like you can. Whether it will help with their anxiety is unclear- further research is needed. You can buy CBD Oil online from Myriam’s Hope Hemp, including CBD Oil designed especially for pets.
